Local Vancouver business asked to paint bobsled for Australian Women’s Team
(Feb 11, 2010 – Vancouver, BC) – Truck West Collision, a local company that has several heavy truck collision and paint shops located in Greater Vancouver, has been approached to paint the bobsled of the Australian Women’s Team.
Owner, Rob Williams said, “I was approached a couple of weeks ago by a family friend to see if I would be interested. Without hesitation I said sure, I would be honoured”.
The sled was to arrive at his shop a week or so ago however as soon as it arrived in Canada it was transported to Whistler for practice runs. Then the team of Astrid Loch-Wilkinson and Cecilia McIntosh had to convince the Court of Arbitration for Sport that they should be allocated a spot in the bobsled event at the Olympic Winter Games after the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation failed to award a place to a team from the Oceania region. The Australian Olympic Association won their arbitration appeal on February 9 and the sled was transported from Whistler to Truck West’s Langley location the next day.
“I am so excited for the girls that they won their appeal and get to compete in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games”, said Rob. “I feel extremely privileged that my company is getting the opportunity to paint their sled and helmets in their traditional Australian colors. My wife and daughter are both volunteering at the Olympics so I guess this is my way of getting involved. I look forward to watching Astrid and Cecilia competing and I will be cheering them on as if they were Canadians.”
The women's bobsled competition starts in Whistler on February 23.
